I was very fortunate last year to meet Kristina Oh of Fleure Studio last year, and to photograph her summer workshop at Phosphene in Fredericksburg. Kristina is truly an artist, and witnessing her teach her craft to others was a beautiful and fulfilling experience. The setting as Phosphene couldn’t have been more perfect - an intimate room with beautifully decorated walls - and the bright, happy florals and greens were so cheery on a mildly gloomy Sunday. I photographed the workshop on both digital and two 35mm analog film cameras, a blending of mediums that I love to incorporate into all forms of my photography. As I listened to Kristina, I noticed some familiar parallels between the practice of Ikebana and the art of photography: the curation of form, light, and color; the balance of structure and fluidity; and the artful evocation of emotion.
